“BORDERS”, an artist’s book by Maxime Muller on borderline disorder

I followed therapy for 1 year to understand the mechanisms of my brain. Therapy not to highlight my traumas, but to put my finger on these situations that made me waver. “Borders” is an exploration, a search, a confrontation at the crossroads of a psychic and material identity. A diary spread over 3 years, three summers and three winters. How do the limits of our mind confront the limits of reality ? How do our fantasies draw contours, which are sometimes transposed onto a map ? A space for demands ? How does a mental space become a geographical space ? A space where you get lost ? “Borders” is a projection of these spaces that are precious to us ; a body, a neck, a look, a bed, a bedroom, a living room, a street, a park, a forest. “Borders” is a collection of places that simultaneously make me doubt, as well as comfort me. A collection of raw feelings, impulses, flashes, sharing.

The artist : Born in Lyon in 1997, lives and works in Lyon (France). After studying medicine, I obtained a European Bachelor's degree in contemporary images at Bloo (Lyon) in 2018, then the same year I joined the National School of Photography in Arles where I obtained my Master's degree in 2022. In order to inventory my work, I carry out self-publishing on the queer world and its limits. To date, I have self-published around fifteen books, and I have worked with three publishing houses (Rien Ne Va Plus, Kermesse and Vertlag Kettler). The DYSTOPIA 4: Pallas edition was shortlisted in the Author category of the Book Prize of the Rencontres de la Photographie d'Arles in 2021. I have also been published in magazines such as Têtu, Trotz, L'imperfaite, Chabe !, or Pornceptual. I exhibited “Se mettre au parfum” at Saint-Martin Bookshop (Brussels, 2023), during the Queers Interiors festival at the Kashagan gallery (Lyon, 2022), “Le vent ne te touche pas” at the Palais bookstore ( Arles, 2021), “Bad Low Loading Load” at the 1909 gallery (Paris, 2021).
