Ça Roule

In a letter dated August 10, 2023, the Mayor of Pont-Aven granted permission to artist John K. Melvin to begin garnering community support and begin planning and construction of his sculpture, Ça Roule. Pont-Aven, known for its art history dating back to the early 19th century, has been welcoming artists ever since. A village dedicated to nature, arts and community, it thrives in the midst of a changing world. The Artist, John K. Melvin, in gratitude for the impact of Pont-Aven on his life and international art career, wishes to create and donate a unique sculpture, valued at 40,000 €, made from reclaimed materials from the Belle Angele site, described in detail in the next paragraph, to the community of Pont-Aven in support of their ambitious urban development project at the Belle Angele site. This project is for the public of Pont-Aven and the community, and is given freely by the artist. The Mayor has granted an exhibition duration of 3 years. Of course, the project can be extended if both the Artist and town agree. Ça Roule, Dimensions with Tourist Buses for scale, John K. Melvin, 2023 Photo renders of the project: Project to be financed, built, and designed by John K. Melvin. 300 used tires from the factory will be re-sourced to make the sculpture. It will be a single spiral responding to the corridor of street, river, and history. Local plants, moss, ferns, etc, low maintenance, will be encouraged to grow on the insides of the tires, with drainage of course. Members of the community can plant their own tire garden and are encouraged to be creative! Artist is designing the sculpture to be stable and solid. Tires are attached to each with bolts through the side walls, then bolted, threaded, and looped onto a welded steel tube armature bolted into the existing concrete slab. Your support will be very appreciated, thank you and see you soon!!

Allocation of funds

The Kiss Kiss Bank Bank campaign will fund the immediate needs of acquiring steel, hardware, and welding consumables for physical construction of the sculpture armature. Individuals can think of the campaign in this way, a minimum of 20 euros for each of the 300 tire gardens in the sculpture, easily achieves the campaign target of 5500 (with banking fees). Of course, more generousity will help feed the artist and the volunteers!! Thank you for all of your support !
