DEN, Le chef-d'oeuvre fondateur de Richard CORBEN !

Out of print in French since the early 1990s but never reissued since at its author's request, DEN, a visionary, hallucinatory work, is finally back in print in a version fully restored from the original art ! It's an event for all fans of fantasy comics and of Richard CORBEN : after more than 30 years of unavailability, DEN, the cult work published in France in the pages of Métal Hurlant from 1975 onwards, which revealed to the comics world the unique talent of its author, is finally making its comeback to our shelves. This complete work, published in the US under the title DEN - NEVERWHERE and corresponding to the first DEN story, has been entirely rescanned from the artist's original plates and the colours restored by José VILLARRUBIA in the spirit of what Richard CORBEN did at the time. Final design of the limited edition of DEN : Page from the restored edition of DEN Limited Ed.: Furthermore, to mark this event, we've obtained the agreement of the rights holders to offer you a "raw" edition that you can also order during this campaign : in large format (28x37.5 cm), this will be a limited edition of 550 copies (+15 Hors Commerce), offering the most discerning fans the chance to discover the original DEN plates in their raw state, with a minimum of apparent restoration and only lettered in French, so that they can appreciate Richard Corben's work at first hand. These plates are mostly in B&W, with a limited number in direct color. They will all be printed in full color, so that you can appreciate all the subtleties of the author's work and retouching, as well as the textures and materials used. The book will be supplied in an individual protective box and 500 copies will be offered as part of this campaign. Having passed through this portal, David loses his memory but finds himself incarnated as DEN, a warrior of prodigious strength from whom everyone seems to expect something... Inspired by the classics of fantasy and science-fiction literature that have fueled his creative passion throughout his career, DEN is as much the synthesis of Richard CORBEN's favourite themes as it is the totally liberated expression of his own imagination and, beyond that, the revelation for all to see of his extraordinary and unique artistic talent. Since its first publication, DEN has become a mythical work, with its radical artistic approach and the straightforwardness which characterizes its author. If it still stirs passions and debates, DEN illustrates as much as it embodies Richard CORBEN's universe, and will leave readers with an indelible impression. ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN and the production of the limited edition of DEN : As with our previous campaigns (GRAVE in 2018, MURKY WORLD in 2020 and BLOODSTAR in 2022), the aim of this campaign is to give ALL contributors access to a beautiful edition that offers them the best reading conditions to discover and enjoy this work. This edition will be in large format (22x30), printed on fine coated paper, with a cloth-backed hardback cover, and will be protected by a luxurious silk-screened cloth box. This edition also includes - an exclusive foreword for DELIRIUM by Mike MIGNOLA, creator of HELLBOY, who talks about his collaborations with Richard CORBEN and his admiration for him. - A 24-page iconographic booklet, featuring color reproductions of original plates, as created by the author. - Sets of goodies: postcards and bookmarks, featuring color close-ups of striking illustrations from the original plates, allowing you to appreciate in detail the beauty and richness of CORBEN's graphic work. This edition will be produced in a limited edition, adjusted to the number of contrbutions at the end of the campaign. Each copy will be numbered. ABOUT THE AUTHOR : Richard CORBEN is an immense comics writer, nourished and passionate about fantasy culture in all its forms (literature, comics, films, pulp magazines, etc.). A freelance writer, he has spent almost his entire artistic career outside the circuit of the major American comic book publishers, preferring to freely explore his own imaginary universes. Although he made a strong impression on French readers of Metal Hurlant or USA Magazine in the 1970s and 1980s, thanks to works such as DEN, BLOODSTAR or LES MILLE ET UNE NUITS (New Tales of the Arabian Nights), he was for a long time "impossible to find" on our side of the Atlantic. Since 2013, all his latest works have found their way back into the French readers's hands and to bookshops thanks to Editions DELIRIUM. At the peak of his art, his return to the forefront of independent comics was rewarded by his peers in 2018 with the Grand Prix du festival de la ville d'Angoulême, the ultimate consecration of his immense career as an artist. Richard CORBEN passed away in December 2020.
