Projet culturel, restauration et mise en valeur d'un ancien lavoir communal
The Town Council is concerned about the future of the commune and is involved in preserving its historic heritage. It would like to restore the village “Lavoir” (wash-house) to its original state, in order to enrich the community’s heritage. Fed by a Gallo-Roman fountain, it bears witness to a bygone era, long before the arrival of running water, when washerwomen would gather to wash their clothes and comment on events in the village. The arrival of washing machines meant that these practices were abandoned. It is all this life of yesteryear, this original story, that the Town Council would like to preserve to make it a witness to life in Loubès. To achieve this, the Town Council is working hard to raise funds from as wide a public as possible. We need each and every one of you! If you are a lover of our ancient heritage and of washhouses, we would be delighted to count you among our generous donors. The current state of the washhouse requires complete renovation to preserve and pass on this historic heritage to future generations. The Terra Aventura trail (an unusual, fun trail designed as a treasure hunt) progresses at the foot of the washhouse, allowing visitors to admire it and discover the Roman fountain that feeds it, while enjoying the picnic area located on the same site. Danger, we must act quickly. Today, we’re sharing the story of this building with you because it’s in danger. To save our washhouse, the Town Council wants to undertake major restoration work on the masonry and roof. We need your help to safeguard and enhance this local heritage. Until very recently, the washhouse was an eminently social place in our village. By making a donation, you will be helping to revive this living space, a witness to local history. The cost of the work is €55,000 and we have only been awarded €7,500 in grants. We’re asking for your help because we absolutely must make the building safe. Would you be prepared to help us by making a donation? Every penny counts. Without you, this heritage will disappear. 100% of your money will be used to restore this wash-house. The requested amount of € 5000 is a minimun, this sum can be significantly exedeed in order to reduce the share taken from taxation. Your participation will contribute to the reconstruction project, which has an overall budget of €55,000 including tax.
On the evening of the “Fête de la St Jean”, a meal followed by a bonfire is organised at the “Lavoir”. For both summer festivals, the fireworks are fired from the grounds of the “Lavoir”. A theatre evening is organised every year around the “Lavoir”.
What the funds will be used for: We had to consolidate the roof structure in several places to prevent it from collapsing. Restoring this part of our cultural and historical heritage is a fundamental part of passing on ancestral knowing-how. By preserving this site, we can perpetuate the memory of the “history of washing”. Your contribution will go towards the reconstruction project, which has an overall budget of €55,000 including tax. THANK YOU
