A FATHER A SON AND SANKARA

100% it's great and the film team thanks you warmly!! Now you have to know that the real needs to finish the film are much higher. Find the details at the bottom of the page. Thank you. SUMMARY The film is a dialogue between Bouzid and me, two roommates, from two different generations and from both shores of the Mediterranean. Bouzid was born in Algeria. He took part in the war for the liberation of Algeria and the revolution in Burkina Faso. He was a journalist, editor and head of state adviser. Bouzid is a poet. I am Andreas. Born in Germany, I make films and podcasts. I am also an editor and photographer. Bouzid and I lived together as a family with my two sons for ten years. It was while listening to him tell his story that I wondered about mine. Throughout this period, the camera has not stopped rolling. STATEMENT OF INTENT I met Bouzid in 2008 in Berlin. Two of our children were in the same class in elementary school. He was 64 and I was 31. I was quickly taken by a very strong curiosity towards his life which seemed to me to be taken from a novel: Bouzid participated in different wars and revolutions. Great militant reporter, he covered the major conflicts of the world in the middle of the Cold War until the beginning of the 2000s. He even crossed paths with Che! It was after the separation with his last wife in 2012 that he decided to join me in Uzès, to take a break in my house where I had moved two years earlier. Filming began when he moved. At first, I filmed it without a specific goal or writing. I simply had the idea of portraying an extraordinary man. At the end of 2021, Bouzid told me that he was preparing to return permanently to his home in Algeria. I felt that the time had come to use and transform these eight years of images and sounds into a documentary film. I participated in a training course entitled "From derushing to documentary writing" at the documentary school in Lussas to see more clearly. I realized that the film was not where I expected it to be. As one can read on signs in the french trains stations: "Attention! A train can hide another", it is the same for this film. I realized that the fact of having shared eight years of life together in France, preceded by two years of friendship in Berlin, was nothing trivial. Coming back from this training, I changed the perspective of the camera while enjoying the presence of Bouzid in the house. I started filming our daily life, I integrated myself into the film. This is how the story became a dialogue. Bouzid left Uzès on February 9, 2022 to join his family in Algeria. THE FILM A FATHER A SON AND SANKARA questions the relationships we have with our loved ones, how the links between us are built up. Through these family fragments, a field opens up that directs the film towards major subjects of international geo-politics. Bouzid's Burkinabe experience with Sankara adds a third dimension to the film which gives ample space to the ideas of this great African leader, which are still topical. The film is like a game of billiards, where one ball hits another and changes the game. Bouzid took and still has a very personal place in my life: he wears his father's clothes, because he is the age of my father and the latter is the great absentee in my life. This inevitably leads to my own family and origins. Money is king there and family pride only fully manifests itself according to income. To link the heterogeneous themes of the film, I deconstruct our different cultures, our ages and our opinions to reveal all that binds us. Because that's the point of the film: We are all connected and our future as humanity depends on this awareness. Especially in today's world, marked by wars, conflicts over natural resources, such as water, oil or gas, and all this against a backdrop of climate change. Although the film never talks about current world politics, it is through the struggles of the past that it calls for radical change. SHOOTING (already done) The images were shot in Germany in Berlin, in France in Paris and in Uzès and in Algeria in Algiers, in Constantine, in small Kabylia. To these images are added excerpts from archive videos with Thomas Sankara, images shot in Burkina Faso and Addis Ababa. In Berlin, I filmed the departure of Bouzid. In Paris we visited the offices of Afrique-Asie, a magazine for which Bouzid was editor-in-chief. Uzès is where we lived together. We went to Algiers in 2019, at the time of the gigantic and popular demonstrations which took place to denounce state corruption and demand a change in the regime in place. We spent the afternoon at the police station for having filmed without authorization. Also, I met Bouzid's family, the places that are important to him. PREVIOUS WORK WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR MONEY IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME? I gave instructions to my team how to finish the film without me.

Allocation of funds

The money will be used to pay: - An editor to finish editing. I edited the film for the moment alone and the help of an editor becomes essential to have a fresh look: 3500€ - Music composer Raphael Benyoucef. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQoce38qxZtvjbd7COUo8-w : 1000€ - A sound engineer for the mix: 1000€ - A studio to do the mixing: 1000€ - The creation of a DCP (hard disk which makes it possible to project the film in movie theaters): 500€ - The costs to send the film to the festivals: 300€ - Travel, meal and technical equipment expenses: 700€ - Remuneration of the director for two months of work: 2000€ You understood, 1000€ is not the amount I need to complete this, but I remain voluntarily low to validate the collection. The real reflection of the estimated expenses is indeed: I estimate that I need an envelope of at least €5,000 which would allow me to cover the costs and pay the collaborators symbolically. The collection would have to reach €10,000 to properly remunerate the artists and technicians with whom I collaborate. And if by some miracle the collection exceeds €10,000, the remaining money will be used to finance an international distribution that I estimate at €8,000. I have been touring since 2014 without any help or subsidy. As with every film, finishing is the most expensive and I need GREAT support to complete this cinematic and human adventure. Thank you to all of you for supporting this project that is close to my heart!!!
