Agros & Sac à Dos

A 52 minutes documentary film !!

From the vegetable producers in the south of France to the Andean mountain pastures and including the Cameroonian agro-forests, the diversity of landscapes and forms taken by family farming is astonishing. In every one of these agrarian systems you can see different forms of Family Farming. Farming feeds the world today: more than 6 billions of people… but for how long will farming feed us ? Who will feed us tomorrow?

In our group composed of 40 students of different nationalities and multiple cultures, this question was raised. You may have one of the possible answers if you follow Pierre -the young director of this movie- into his journey in the 52 minutes documentary film. You can also read more about the subject on the website http://agriculturefamiliale.com! The film will also have an instructive dimension as we plan to screen it in elementary and high schools.

Why this project ?

This year was declared as the International Year of Family Farming by the FAO, which is a farming form that is often little known. And that’s why we want you to learn about it!

Well then, what is Family Farming? It is very simply farmers working with their families… “- Oh I see, so my neighbourgh who makes goat’s milk cheese, this is family Farming? - Yes! - And what about Annie whose eggs I buy on the farmers market, is she a family farmer too? – Absolutely! But wait; there are also Fred’s 100 hectares of wheat, that farmer we saw last week on TV producing bamboo, this Indian family doing organic farming and that woman cultivating quinoa alone on the terraces of the Andean mountains.

Family Farming From the Expert's point of view

Just a few words from Marc Dufumier and Sebastien Bainville, two experts in the fields of Family Farming in France that support us in the realization of the project. They give you their point of view on Family Farming and that's a point of view we share with them.

Until now they support us as says Marc Dufumier in the video, and we are all very happy and proud of their supporting but also the fact that they share their knowledge on the subject with us and that's something that will help us a lot to realize a professional-looking and scientific documentary film. If they support our project, you can too !

How to realize such a project?

The goal of the movie is to show you that an agriculture able to feed the world when we will be 9 or 10 or 20 billions of human beings on Earth may exist… And it may be family farming. We will visually describe you the assets, the benefits and the interests of this agriculture which we no often talk or hear about. We also will try to explain the problems faced by family farming too often.

As we are for most of us students, we are all on our 6-months end of studies internships! Pierre will therefore come with us in the 4 continents where we do our internships: in Europe, of course, but also in Asia, Africa and Latin America! Our knowledge can guide him through the discovery of family farming, showing you the issues of this agriculture.

Where does the documentary film take place?

Watching this movie, you will be transported around the globe: you will see the French countryside, the gorgeous views of the Andean mountains in Ecuador, the Cameroonian tropical forests and India’s oriental landscapes! This documentary film is a journey, and it will blow you away…

Try for yourself !

The entire amount of money that will be collected will be used to fund the group’s operating expenses and in particular the ones of us staying in France and in charge of the management of the group and the project, but also to cover Pierre’s costs :

- His travel expenditures (plane tickets, intra country travels): 4 730 €

- His filming equipment: 3 700 €

- His daily life expenses (housing, food, insurance, vaccines): 5 400 €

If we raise 5 000 €: Pierre’s travel expenditures are covered; the rest of the expenses is covered by complementary funding and/or by financial contributions from our group’s members.

If we raise more money: we would be able to cover all the expenses during the filming including Pierre’s travels and his expenses in every country, and thereafter the screening of the movie: in festivals, schools, etc.

We created a website dedicated to:

- Feeding into the debates

- Sharing our journeys with you: blogs of the project’s authors during their internships, a photo gallery;

- Allowing you to participate!
