DJELIYA -- un conte en cirque et en musique

The circus company Les Errants (The Walkers) is about to begin the creation of its new all-ages performance.

It is time for us to spread our wings and embark on a new adventure by creating an internationally based performance.

We are working on DJELIYA, a tale-inspired performance where circus (acrobalance) meets dance meets live music.

Three artists hailing from Sweden, Chile and Belgium meet to develop an acrobalance trio which, together with a Belgian musician, will tell a positive and rousing story inspired by tales from all over the world.

Without words, no more borders: our project consists of creating a tale of movement and music, which goes beyond cultural differences.

Arts for everyone: our goal is to perform DJELIYA in places where the arts usually don’t go (remote villages, precarious places, parks, …), and to tell our stories to children (as well as adults) from all over the world.

For immemorial times, tales have been used as a vehicle to convey messages that can help us face and overcome obstacles that life throws at us.

They offer a perspective for us to persevere and face each of those obstacles with courage. If we believe in this ancestral wisdom, life is an amazing gift which is worthwhile investing in.

We like this optimism and are basing our piece on it.

During our research for this new piece, we met the Kora, a West-African harp used by griots (custodians of oral tradition) to transmit their knowledge in the form of stories and tales. Therefore to us, the Kora seems to be the music instrument of tales par excellence.

March 2015

Third and last artistic residency in Uddevalla, Sweden & Premiere of our performance at the Regionteater Väst.

Our goal is to create an independent and high quality piece of contemporary circus.

For this, we need your support, because despite working on a low-budget level and within a peer-to-peer economy (exchange work for rehearsal spaces in Chile, living with families while travelling, etc.), some expenses are still inevitable and need to be covered.

Also, in order to guarantee the quality of our work, we are appointing the help of an experienced theatre director from Sweden. His role is not only to spice up our performance but also to act as a wise outside eye. His name is Pelle Hanæus and he specialises in directing shows for children and young people.

Our Kisskissbankbank budget is made up as follows:

- €1000 to cover a part of Pelle’s salary. His total salary is higher but we are combining different sources of funding to pay for it all.

- €500 to hire a rehearsal studio for our artistic residency in Sweden

- €300 for costumes

- €400 marketing of the show (photos , graphic design, printing, …)

- €400 salary for a sound & light technician who will help us finalise the piece in Sweden

- €400 van rental and petrol in Chile: As part of our artistic residency over there, we are planning to have a trial tour across remote villages. In order to be able to travel safely to those places with everyone and all our equipment, we need to rent a small van.

Beyond this, we are aiming to cover all plane tickets with public funding but nothing is guaranteed as of yet. Every pence that we receive over our set objective here, will therefore help us to pay towards our travels and our food during the artistic residencies.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your support and see you very soon around a tale!
