Shadowpiercer
You play as a young magician-engineer, called a technomancer. Whilst your character is organising the evacuation of a whole city following the firing of a bomb, they get knocked out. A few seconds (or was it hours?) later, you wake up to an empty train platform… Shadowpiercer is an adventure action-RPG game which focuses it’s gameplay on crafting paired with Hack’nSlash combat mechanics. It is both a single and multi-player game. Explore the rich and original universe of Grinn, aboard your train, of which Shadowpiercer is the apocalyptic future. Between magicpunk and dark fantasy you will be immersed in the core of a world at its industrial peak, among the volcanic plaines of Théanord and the megacities of humankind, not forgetting the frozen fjord of the dwarven Havres. Find untouched areas, gather resources and develop your locomotive in order to roam the world, searching for the very nature of the Shadow. Shadowpiercer’s gameplay is focused on extensive combat with various enemies, and above all bosses with patterns and procedural dungeons. Regarding crafting, we will offer an overall system where every bolt, every little piece will have to be crafted individually, but everything will also be automatable in factories that you will have to build. No more grinding, with a gathering system also automatable with the appropriate machines. All of this punctuated by your journey aboard your train going through closed environments procedurally generated, constantly renewing your experience. Alone or with friends, on co-hosted private servers, enter this thrilling adventure, building your new life whilst traveling on the rails of a world plagued by the Shadow. Shadowpiercer part of our transmedia: the Grinn Universe, an original dark fantasy world that has not finished surprising you. Tales, roleplay games and cookbooks await you, to discover Grinn’s cogs, a vast, rich and profound universe that is ready to carry you into its imaginary. In order for you to help us achieve our goals by reaching our stretch goals, we came up with different reward packs reflecting our lore. They are all filled with goodies that will allow you to explore our transmedia project and travel into the world of Shadowpiercer. Our rewards consist in starter packs and add-on packs; most starter packs contain a game key and an exclusive access to the playable trailer. Add-on packs are rewards that feature unique goodies, to add to your starter pack. The latter being unlocked as we reach stretch goals. Also, because we do not want to wait too long, the rewards you chose will be delivered Q1 2023 along with the goodies and access to the playable trailer. Your adventure will be regulated by the two great pillars of crafting games, but arranged our own way! Our goal is to please the two types of players identified below and offer them the best experience possible. We also want to create a close bond between these two gameplays that will have to progress in a symbiotic manner. Your train is your new home, and the only place where you will be able to feel safe. Furnish it to industrialise your crafting, but also to make it feel warm and cozy. Take your time, between two adventures to upgrade and upscale your locomotive by adding new wagons: Turn your train into a real moving base. Full-scale and complex craft that can be automated Carriages that can be arranged from top to bottom Tens of locomotive levels Farming and livestock A true cooking system Chickens In such dire times, you have to get up and fight against the rampant threat. Explore, fight and investigate to understand this Shadow and try to find a way to defeat it. Stop your train in a procedurally generated area and explore every nook and cranny looking for rare resources, blueprints or forgotten memories. With a little bit of luck you will find a randomly generated dungeon full of unforgettable enemies and bosses. Combat and loot Resource gathering Searching for forgotten memories and clues to the location of the dungeons Dungeon exploring Tasting delicious meals to boost your stats Pick elegant armor Craft exceptional weapons Traveling aboard your train will punctuate your adventure. You will be able to stop in various biomes (desert, planes, etc.). These biomes are divided into 3 difficulty levels that increase as you get further from the equator. When you stop your train, an area is generated while pushing away the Shadow where you will be able to gather resources, fight enemies, and with a bit of luck find a procedurally generated dungeon that you will be able to explore to attempt to slay the boss keeping it! Once done, you can leave and use the loot to upgrade your moving base. It should be noted that developing a game is very expensive. On average the budget for a game like ours is above 1 000 000€. Although we already have invested all of the resources of the studio into this project, we only are in the early stages of Shadowpiercer’s development and we will need the financial support of a publisher for most of the remaining budget. So far, we were able to create a technical demo of our procedural generation as well as a gameplay demo where we have a fully functioning multiplayer system, although there is still a bit of work to get it fully integrated. Now, we find ourselves at a crucial step between the start of the pre-production and signing with a publisher: a vertical slice. We pictured it as a playable trailer that gives an overview of the global experience in game, as well as meeting the need of the studio to find publishers! *Simplified version, keeping in mind that every project is different regarding it’s ambition and resources. While we already have invested more than 70% of the budget to develop this demo, we still need the assistance of a 3D animator and a VFX artist to really achieve our vision! We offer a simple deal: Help us finish this project by giving us the means to make it meet our ambitions. Every milestone funds a defining building block of the playable trailer. In return, for every pack, you will get a copy of the game at its launch, and private access to the playable trailer. In fact, we want to innovate by creating a demo whose unfolding will be similar to a trailer. This experience will allow you to discover the visual universe of Shadowpiercer and envision the content that we mean to offer on launch. The more this trailer is extensive, the more we will be able to bring scale to the project with the help of an experienced publisher and so give you a fulfilled game experience. Our goal here is not only to show only the introduction or a part of the game. We want to show you its full potential through sequences that each have their own ambiance, highlighting the most important phases of your future adventure. Your journey will begin upon your technomancer waking up in the station and will end with your first encounter with a world boss, including your first fights and crafts, all in more or less 15 minutes; obviously depending on how much time you will spend looking at the train station’s and humankind’s capital’s architecture. Every stretch goal meets an essential need for the game’s development and will unlock more add-on packs to add to your starter. These reward packs include more specific and exclusive goodies. The 100% mark will allow us to hire a 3D animator to finish the vertical slice and will unlock an exclusive mini-artbook to add to the starter pack you chose! Shadowpiercer is an ambitious game that is, for now, developed with only our resources, but with technical skills and passion. It was born and has grown during the last few years when having “quiet moments” between two contracts. Today, our victory at the Game Cup has shown us that the larger public is aware of the potential that has Shadowpiercer, which encourages us to take the next step with you. Allocation of funds
In summary ! We put all our resources and passion in the development of this project, but we need a publisher to give it the grandness that it deserves. It is in this context that we are looking to create a playable trailer, the goal of this crowdfunding and a requirement for publishers. It will also allow us to let you experience a condensed and intense version of the completed game. Today you have the opportunity to bring crucial support to the future of our studio. This support obviously deserves a reward, and it seems only right for us to offer for every support access to the finished game, but also to this playable trailer that would otherwise only accessible to publishers. Every milestone that we reach poses for us a focal point of the playable trailer’s development; whether that is a 3D animator to improve our character or a VFX artist to add 2D animation-style effects. 100% of the funds collected will go towards the development of this playable trailer, including hiring an animator, and of course carry out the rewards and stretch goals.
