Bridges to Prosperity - Kapkwombola Uganda 2019

They will transform the way people plan for and invest in their future.</p> <hr /> <p>&nbsp;<strong>TRAVEL TEAM:</strong></p> <blockquote> <p><strong>&quot;Making it possible, Building together by cross-cultural collaboration&quot;.</strong></p> </blockquote> <p>Freyssinet &amp; T-Ing&eacute;nierie&nbsp;collaborate with B2P staff and local workers from the Kurumbono&nbsp;community to meet this challenge, and to emphasize their unique skill sets in the project. Work to complete project preparation, construction on site, and post-tasks as designated by the following Travel Team Roles.<img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/561592/Travel_Team-1545828399.png" width="100%" /></p> <ul> <li><strong>Project lead:</strong> <strong>Bart &amp; Laurent</strong></li> </ul> <p>Manage all aspects of the project, from planning through execution, ensuring safety, technical quality, and community engagement. Each day, the Project initiate the morning briefing, and makes an effort to include local community members or staff.</p> <ul> <li><strong>Construction lead: La&euml;titia &amp; Emilie</strong></li> </ul> <p>Lead the development of the daily construction plan, oversees the team&#39;s involvement in construction on the job site, and&nbsp;ensures the completion of the as-built drawings.&nbsp;The Construction will arrange construction meetings with all team members, B2P staff, and community laborers.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li><strong>Safety lead: Quyet &amp; C&eacute;line</strong></li> </ul> <p>Create the Health and Safety plan, and is responsible for on-site safety briefings and monitoring, including appropriate compliance from local workers. The Safety is responsible for submitting incident, near hit reports, and ensuring that all participants are utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.</p> <ul> <li><strong>Logistics lead: Wojciech &amp; Davide</strong></li> </ul> <p>Work with the B2P staff to arrange team accommodations both onsite and in the outlying areas of&nbsp;large cities, meals, and transportation to and from the project site. The Logistics also help ensure that each team member has fulfilled the necessary travel requirements and manage team finances.</p> <ul> <li><strong>Communication lead: Nicolas &amp; Lo&iuml;c</strong></li> </ul> <p>Create an internal and external communication strategy for accomplishing the marketing goals as fund-raising, communicate humanitarian-plan, making strong partnership,&nbsp;knowledge-sharing, and show the project&#39;s advancement. The Communication is responsible for photography, videography or interviews for directly collecting media on the field.</p> <hr /> <p>&nbsp;<strong>VISION AND MISSION:</strong></p> <blockquote> <p><strong>&quot;Rural isolation is a root cause of poverty.&nbsp;By building a&nbsp;FootBridge over impassable river, we create&nbsp;a critical foundation for economic opportunity, helthcare and education.&quot;</strong></p> </blockquote> <p style="text-align:center"><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/561596/View-1545828954.png" width="100%" /></p> <p>The residents of the Kurumbono community are young farmers who grow maize and beans. Over 690 community members will be directly affected by the construction of a FootBridge.</p> <p>The Cheptweyi River is too dangerous to cross due to flooding during four months of the year. Due to site topography, residents are trapped by high cliffs above and below, and they have to wait for the water to go down. During flood season, access is often blocked to the market, health centers, and schools. Over 50 people have been injured attempting river crossings without a safe access.</p> <p>The Kapkwombola Suspended Bridge will create a strong connection for all residents of the Kurumbono community, and all other people from the Kapsinda municipality.</p> <hr /> <p><strong>MORE INFORMATION ON THE FOOTBRIDGE:&nbsp;</strong></p> <blockquote> <p><strong>&quot;Supported by gravity anchors, the suspended cable pedestrian bridge is based on traditional designs found in Nepal and Peru&quot;.</strong></p> </blockquote> <p>The cables supporting the walkway surface hang from mansonry abutments on each bank of the Cheptweyi River. The bridge will be built in collaboration with Freyssinet &amp; T-Ing&eacute;nierie Travel Team, B2P staff supervision, and also maximum community participation.</p> <p>Achieving the proper freeboard of approximately&nbsp;3 meter high over the maximum water level is the most challenging aspect of this bridge type, and they may require substantial amounts of materials to stabilise abutments.</p> <hr /> <p><strong>THE CHALLENGE:&nbsp;</strong></p> <blockquote> <p><strong>&quot;Built to last, Built to&nbsp;create connection, and to inspire for other solutions. Freyssinet and T-Ing&eacute;nierie take this opportunity&nbsp;of&nbsp;demonstrating/modeling Safety on the job site, elevating the level of Technicality for future projects in the Kpsinda region, and bringing individuals together in the pursuit of inspiration.</p> <p>The construction of Kapkwombola Suspended Bridge serve also&nbsp;as training project for local foremen and superintendents.
