Thom et Steve font partie d'une communauté peu reconnue et largement discriminée dans notre société: les asexuels. Ils ne ressentent aucun désir sexuel et se battent pour que l'asexualité devienne une orientation sexuelle propre aux yeux de la société, comme lorsque l'on se sent hétéro ou homo.

La communauté asexuelle s'est constituée autour de symboles forts et tente d'avoir une visibilité au même titre que la communauté gay. Leurs symboles? un drapeau et l'As de pique. Leur devise? Les gâteaux sont meilleurs que le sexe. Leur combat? Montrer qu'ils existent.

Pour ce 15 minutes, nous suivons Thom et Steve, deux militants asexuels de Bristol au Royaume-Uni, dans la préparation de leur mariage qui célèbrera leur amour tout autant que l'asexualité elle-même.

Tout au long de cette préparation, nous voyons Thom et Steve se confronter à la discrimination et au rejet de la part de proches ou de la communauté LGBT, nous entendons leur combat pour l'égalité.

Enfin, le 21 juillet, entourés de leur 150 proches tous habillés aux couleurs du drapeau asexuel, nous les voyons célébrer cet amour sans sexe avec force et détermination, au rythme de chansons aux connotations asexuelles.

La caméra fait entièrement partie du documentaire, comme si elle était un ami à qui Thom et Steve se confient, afin de créer une intimité avec eux-mêmes et leur combat.

Thom and Steve are asexual activists with a keen commitment to raise awareness of asexuality as a proper sexual orientation.

Thom discovered his asexuality orientation in 2012 and he met Steve in 2014. Since 2015, they are engaged and relieved to be in an asexual relationship. They are both in their thirties and run a podcast for the asexual community all around the world.

They are currently preparing their wedding, which will take place on the 21st July. Their wedding will be entirely organised around the asexual theme with all the symbols the community has to federate such as asexual flags, ace cards, everyone will be wearing asexual flag colours (purple, black, grey and white), the local asexual community will be there and the best men are asexual too.

Then, the wedding becomes a symbol of their activism and their drive to be recognised as asexual.

The film follows them in the preparation and the celebration of the wedding. Through it, we dive into the community to show the issues of being a discriminated minority, fighting for their rights and being recognised as a global community like the LGBT+ community has done before.

The camera is totally a part of the story, such as a friend they talk to, to create an intimacy between the audience and the characters. The pace is fast to grab the attention of the audience.
